How to Make Blog Content More Interesting and Effective
Are you tired of people visiting your blog only to leave after a few seconds?
This is one of the biggest frustrations I hear from clients who spend hours creating awesome content without much to show for it.
You don’t have to miss out, though, because you can learn how to make your blog content more interesting and effective – and keep people on your pages for longer.
Here are a few strategies you can try with both your existing and upcoming posts.
Video
Using video at the beginning of your blog post attracts the reader’s attention right away and gives them a reason to stick around.
You can use video in a number of ways to make your blog post more interesting:
Humanize your brand
Introduce a new product
Demonstrate a service
Show how to do something
And you aren’t limited to these types of videos, either. You can come up with any kind of content that enhances your blog post.
I prefer to post my video earlier in the content because it keeps people on the page longer and sparks interest immediately.
Images
Relevant and eye-catching images make blog content more interesting to readers.
Visual content enhances your blog, whether it’s an image of people or a chart showing useful data.
According to Backlinko, using at least one image in your content helps to gain more traffic than web pages with no image.
Images should support the content you’re writing about, but it also doesn’t hurt to make it entertaining.
There are a number of sites where you can find images to use, or you can tap in to your own images, which often make your blog more effective and relevant.
Social Proof
Have you ever visited a blog post that shows how many times it’s been liked or shared?
Many times, these social media buttons are placed near the top of the blog, which show the number of likes, tweets or shares it’s received.
This is known as social proof, and it’s a very effective way to get more people to read and share your blog with others in their circles.
You can use social proof on a blog post to make it more effective.
Short Paragraphs
A few years ago, I read about the effectiveness of using shorter paragraphs in blog content. The theory is, it makes your content more digestible and easier to read.
I didn’t really put much stock into it until I started noticing how much better of a user experience I was having on blogs that employed it.
Then, I really noticed a difference when I was reading a blog on my phone, and then I was convinced short paragraphs were the way to go.
I really like this approach because it doesn’t allow me to go on and on about a topic; it forces me to be clear and concise with my words.
I can only imagine my audience likes that, too!
Call to Action (CTA)
Every blog post you create should have a purpose.
Whether it’s to nurture a prospect or reconnect with a long-time client, you want to make sure there is a clear intention and definitive goal with every piece of content.
One of the best ways to encourage your readers take the next step – whether that’s signing up for a newsletter or downloading a white paper – is to include a very transparent call to action.
Most readers won’t make a purchase after reading a blog post, yet it remains an important step in the path to purchase for many customers.
Make it simple for your audience to advance to the next phase by giving them an enticing reason to do so.
