What You Need to Know about Google’s Page Experience Update
Wondering what the deal is with the Google Page Experience Update? Essentially, Google recently made an announcement stating user experience will become a ranking factor sometime in 2021.
While that's months away, brands still need to know what’s required to comply with the algorithm to keep their websites in line with the latest guidelines.
Let’s have a look at what Google plans to include in the new Page Experience update.
First, What’s Staying the Same
The good news about this update is most of the existing Google ranking factors will remain, including:
Page load speed
Safe browsing
HTTPS security
If you haven’t upgraded your website to include these, then you’ll want to take care of them this year to improve how users can experience and interact with your web pages. In a nutshell, the Google Page Experience Update uses these criteria to understand how well your web pages are able to do just that.
Now, What’s Going to Be New
In addition to the above ranking factors, the update will also include what Google is calling Core Web Vitals, which are basically refinements to speed and usability metrics. Core Web Vitals include the following:
Largest Contentful Paint (LCP) – measures loading performance
First Input Delay (FID) – measures interactivity
Cumulative Layout Shift (CLS) – measures visual stability
